Crossover Slots: From Land Based To Online

As more and more slot providers start to bring popular land-based casino slot machines online, I thought an article detailing exactly which slot machines have made the crossover might act as a handy reference. In this article you’ll see which slot games have crossed over and where you can play them online either for fun or for real money.

2012 Update: WMS Gaming have now also launched a number of their land-based slot machines online at Jackpot Party (available to UK players only) including Zeus, Star Trek, the Wizard Of Oz slots, Bruce Lee, Krnos, Super Jackpot Party and several others.

NB: Each paragraph mentions the online casinos which have the slot machine being mentioned. To visit the casino and play the game, use the casino list in the right hand menu.

Cleopatra Slots

There are several incarnations of IGT’s popular Cleopatra slot machines in land-based casinos and three of those variants have made it into online casinos. As you’d expect, the basic version of Cleopatra is available (Virgin Casino, Blue Square, Paddy Power Games) and it has a higher payout percentage than the 2 land-based versions aswell. In addition, the Cleopatra MegaJackpots game is also now available at the same online casinos. The follow-up game, Cleopatra 2 is also available. We’ve yet to see the 4-way version of the original Cleopatra online. You can also visit OCV to play the Cleopatra slots for fun if you prefer.

Pharaoh’s Fortune

This is an immensely popular free spins slot machine in land-based casinos and in Q4, 2010 it made th etransition into an online environment. While the land-based version comes in two flavours (10 and 20 payline), the online version is simply the 10 payline version. The reason it’s so popular is the possibility of getting a decent number of spins and high multipliers (up to 6x). It is available to play online at Paddy Power Games.

Wolf Run

Another IGT slot machine that comes in two flavours at land based casinos – 40 and 50 payline. The online version of the Wolf Run slot is the 40-payline version and has stacked wilds and free spins. It is available at all IGT-based online casinos incluing Kerching casino, Virgin casino, Blue Square and Paddy Power.

Lil Lady

The Lil’ Lady slot from IGT is one of several clones of Wolf Run (others include Coyote Moon and the Great Eagle slot) but this time with a ladybug theme. Free spins and stacked wilds and 40 paylines. Available at Virgin Casino, Paddy Power Games and Kerching among others.

Enchanted Unicorn

This IGT slot has been around for a few years in land-based and a couple more online. No free spins feature here but there is a bonus round and the slot has expanding wilds on reels 2, 3 and 4. Available at Paddy Power Games, Blue Square casino, Virgin and IGT’s own Kerching casino.

Super Hoot Loot

Super Hoot Loot was the follow-up slot to the original Hoot Loot, both of which are common enough in Vegas casinos. Only the “Super” version has been ported into the online environment but for those of you who know it, it is fairly unique and has a free spins bonus plus an unusual way of providing big multipliers. In fact, initially it’s a little confusing but it soon makes sense and you start to see why it is quite popular. It’s available at all IGT-software powered online casinos inclusing Blue Square, Paddy Power Games, Sky Vegas, Virgin and Boyle Games.

Kitty Glitter

The Kitty Glitter slot machine from IGT is more popular in UK land-based casinos than in the US casinos. Another free spins slot machine, Kitty Glitter had a unique extra-wild feature and stacked symbols. This slot game isn’t available at all online casinos using IGT software but it is available at Paddy Power Games, Virgin and kerching.

Noah’s Ark

This IGT slot is a more recent one to cross over and bears a resemblence to Super Hoot Loot (see below). It has a unique feature called Split Symbols which means that you can actually get a 10-symbol win rather than the normal 5. Interesting. Available at the usual suspects including Virgin casino and IGT’s own online casino, Kerching.

Treasures Of Troy

This is an IGT multiway slot and the online version is identical to the land-based version but with a slightly increased payout percentage online set to 94.93%. The unusual thing about Treasures of Troy is that every symbol on every reel is a reel in it’s own right meaning that, theoretically, you could end up with stacked symbols across the reels for a very heft payout. The reality is that this rarely happens! You’ll find Treasures Of Troy at every IGT-software powered casino including Sky Vegas, Virgin, Boyle Games and Blue Square.

White Orchid

The White Orchid slot machine is a direct clone of IGT’s Multiway slot, Treasures Of Troy (see above) and is only available at Virgin Casino, Boyle Games, Kerching and Paddy Power Games.

Rainbow Riches

This is another UK-focused slot machine popular in casinos and bookies. Unlike most of the other slots here it doesn’t have a free spin feature but you can win up to 200x in the Pathway feature. There are two flavours of Rainbow Riches online – the original plus the Winbig Shindig version. You can play it at Kerching, Sky Vegas, Virgin or Paddy Power Games.

Reel King

Another very popular UK slot machine (online at Sky Vegas right now. I can’t say it’s my favourite crossover-slot game but because it retains some of the UK “pub fruitie” feel to it – despite having 5 reels – and a unique randomly triggered bonus feature it is very popular.

Book Of Ra

The Book Of Ra slot from Novomatic is popular across Europe mainly because of it’s unique free spins feature where you get a random symbol turned into a scatter symbol for some potentially very big wins. It’s one of my favourite slots so I was dead chuffed when Book Of Ra came online at Sky Vegas casino (the only place you can play it online right now). In land-based casinos the Book Of Ra slot comes in three flavours: the original (which is the version you see online), a Deluxe version which is pretty much identical but the graphics and symbols are smoother and in a licenced version to Multigame called “Book Of Liberia“. The latter has slightly diferent symbols and sounds but the gameplay is identical.

Wizard Of Oz

This is a very popular slot machine from WMS and in land-based casinos comes in several flavours. The two versions that are online (as of October 2012) are the original Emarald City version and the improved Ruby Slippers slot which I prefer. WMS have their own online casino called Jackpot Party which as of now, is the only place you can play these Wizard Of Oz games online.

Star Trek

There is a bit of confusuion over this one. WMS and IGT both have Star Trek games but the latter are only available online while WMS games are in both land-based casinos and online casinos. As of now (updated, October 2012) , IGT have two Star Trek slots available online while WMS have 4 at Jackpot Party. The original one is what is discussed here:

One of WMS’s “Adaptive Gaming” slot machines and I’ve only ever seen this in vegas, but it’s unique for several reasons. The most obvious is that it comes with it’s own comfy chair complete with headrest and Bose surround sound system built into the headrest! It’s quite something! Obviously the online version of Star Trek doesn’t have the chair but the gameplay is the same. It’s available exclusively at the WMS driven online casino, Jackpot Party.

Zeus Slots

The Zeus slot is another game from WMS and is the predecessor of Zeus II which forms part of the Super Respin series. I’m reliably informed that the Zeus II slot will soon be available to play online too and both can be found at Jackpot Party casino, the WMS-run online casino.

Palace Of Riches II

This slot machine is from the WMS Super Repsin series and is already available online. Like most WMS slots you rarely see it outside of the USA but in Vegas it’s well known. If you haven’t played Super Respin slots then you should. They are pretty dam awesome IMO! Like the other WMS slots above, you can find this exclusively at Jackpot Party casino.

Texas Tea

Returning to IGT slots again, the oldie-but-goldie Texas Tea slot is also online at most online casinos with IGT slots including Virgin casino, Paddy Power Games, Kerching and Sky Vegas. I’m not a fan myself – prefer slots with free spins features – but it has been a very popular slot machine in land-based casinos down the years so no surprise to see Texas tea online.

Lord Of The Rings

This is an anomoly because the licence for Lord Of The Rings slot machines was split into two: WMS got the land-based version while Microgaming (arguably the leading online slot game manufacturer) got the online licence. Microgaming have since withdrawn their online version for reasons that went unexplained and have replaced it with The Dark Knight which is exactly the same game as their LOTR slot but obviously Batman themed.

The Dark Knight

Rather like the Star Trek slots discussed here, more than one developer have a licence for The Dark Knight. IGT do the land-based version which is a community game (big screen, seats together etc, much like Sex In The City or Hangover) while Microgaming do the online version. I prefer Microgamings, mainly because the IGT one pumps out lots of small wins and never anything more than about 10x your bet. It’s more entertaining but less profitable in my experience.

The Microgaming version has a 4-tier progressive jackpot (1% RTP contribution) and stacked wilds along with a free spin feature and agaian, several small features awarding extra wilds, wild reels or small cash prizes. It’s slightly more volatile than IGT’s version but has bigger win potential too. More information is available on both versions at The Dark Knight Slots website which goes into far more detail.

Monopoly Slots

Rather like the LOTR slot above, the online versions of the Monopoly slots (there are 3) are somewhat different to the versions you see in vegas casinos. Neither really grab me although the Monopoly javckpot games in land-based are probably the most fun. All the online Monopoly slot machines are available at Virgin casino, Paddy Power Games and Blue Square casinos.

Captain Quid’s Treasure

I never knew this was a land-based slot machine until fairly recently when I saw a version of it in a UK casino. Forget which one. It’s got a free spin bonus with potentially big multipliers and I’d guess is based on Pharaoh’s Fortune although the feature is triggered with 3 scatters in view rather than on a payline like Pharaohs. But the number of free spins and multipliers is very similar indeed. This slot machine is available at all the online casinos using IGT/Wagerworks software (no download) including Virgin casino, Boyle Games and Kerching.

Pharaohs Secrets

This one is an oddity. In some European casinos there is a version of Pharaohs Secrets on the Multigame system that is different but very closely related to Playtech’s online slot of the same name. I’m not quite sure if there is a deal here or whether it’s coincidence but essentially both have exanding wilds and free spins and either way is actually very good – plus relatively low variance. The one big difference is that the land-based version has an extra bonus round where you wanted through catacombs collecting prizes and multipliers while the online version simply has the free-spins feature. I play it online at Bet365 casino or Paddy Power Casino.

Bar-X 5, Bar-X Magic 7, Bar-X 125

These slots are really UK focused and have been around offline for donkey’s years. I used to play the original Bar-X on Brighton Pier back in the 90’s! Anyway, there are three versions of Bar-X now online and the best place to play them is at Sky Vegas casino. They are basic slot machines on the whole but have a real nostalgia feel.
